In Samsung’s Galaxy unpacked event, the brand announced that some of its devices will be supported for up to three years. That is, such devices will be eligible for about three (3) generations of Android OS upgrades. Cool right?

During the event however, they weren’t specific as to what smartphones or tablets are exactly eligible for the three year major OS upgrades. Recall that the devices announced in the event launched with Android 10. So, the eligible devices will be upgraded to Android 11, 12, and 13, respectively. So the question is, what devices qualify for this 3-year upgrade? Well, here they are-

Samsung Galaxy S series phones

Galaxy Note Series devices

Galaxy Foldable series devices

Galaxy A series devices

  • Galaxy A71 5G
  • Galaxy A71
  • Galaxy A51 5G
  • Galaxy A51
  • Galaxy A90 5G
  • …and select upcoming A series devices

Galaxy Tablets

  • Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G
  • Galaxy Tab S7+
  • Galaxy Tab S7 5G
  • Galaxy Tab S7
  • Galaxy Tab S6 5G
  • Galaxy Tab S6
  • Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
  • …and upcoming Tab S series devices

The Galaxy A series will be supported, as seen in the few devices mentioned. But unlike other series, only a few upcoming A series smartphones will be eligible for 3-yrs major Android OS upgrade. Such ineligible devices will still fall back to the normal 2-yr OS upgrades. Compared to some other brands than barely release monthly security patches to their devices, you can make do with (assured) 2 years major OS upgrade.
